This is a math journal that I used this last trimester of school with my 3rd graders. It was very handy! Each time I introduced a new math vocabulary word, we wrote in in our journals. We then wrote the definition together as well as the symbol if there was one. We also had a math number of the day, which I would write on the board each morning as part of the morning work.

Exploring Double Digit Multiplication
Double digit multiplication is tough! Teaching it to young minds who have barely conquered basic multiplication facts can be a daunting task, but this unit can help. My students enjoy it because it breaks the problems down and some students even learn how to multiply larger numbers mentally.
This is only for 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication...we all know it gets harder once you add more digits! My third graders totally get this and it prepares them for larger numbers in 4th grade.

Alien Fractions
Aliens and fractions are two things kids love! Students were given time to draw four aliens. I told them to be very creative. After, they compared alien attributes, using fractional statements. Here are some pictures of the students' aliens:

Pirate Probability
The kids in my class have loved the pirate probability unit. We worked on it during math time today and yesterday. We decided to have the students read the "likely", "unlikely" statements one at a time like pirates. Then the class would call out the answer and if we agreed we would "rrrrrr" like a pirate. I was laughing so hard that I was crying! It definitely made my day!
